Analogue Black and White: Studio studies of the nude (Experienced)

This intensive studio workshop is designed specifically for dedicated photographers that have comprehensive knowledge of photography and feel comfortable taking photographs and that have had some darkroom experience.

AIMS:

By the conclusion of this workshop you will have covered and have an understanding, within the time allocated of the following at an advanced level:

  • An advanced understanding of Studio Photography
  • Studio lighting;
  • Medium and large format analogue camera techniques;
  • Darkroom techniques and procedures;
  • Mixing chemicals;
  • Manually developing film;
  • Contact sheet printing;
  • Assessing and editing from the contact sheets;
  • Proof printing on resin coated paper.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The  weekend workshops we will cover:

  • Advanced analogue camera techniques;
  • Subject;
  • Content;
  • Composition;
  • Location (you will be advised and partly accompanied);
  • How to develop 35mm or 120mm roll film and large format sheet Black and White film;
  • Printing Contact sheets;
  • Printing Resin Coated proof printing.

ITINERARY

Friday from 6- 9pm

6-00pm arrival and introductions.

Illustrated lecture and discussion on the ethics and concepts surrounding photographing the nude.  The workshop will concentrate on creative lighting and composition. 

There will also be advice on advanced techniques that enable you to produce images that will be technically competent.

6-30pm Light supper.  In our local Italian.

Set up in the studio

12-30pm Lunch in our local gourmet coffee shop. Not provided. 

2-00pm-4-00pm

Continue shooting in the studio.

***there will be a model change for the afternoon session***

 

Sunday 10-00am- 4-00pm.

Film Developing and contact  printing

1-00-2-00pm Lunch in our local gourmet coffee shop. Not provided. 

2-00-4-00pm

Proof printing assessment feedback, Tea and departure.

FOLLOW UP:
 
All workshops will have a follow up sessions that is included in the workshop fees. These will be on a weekend to be arranged.  The location will be here. If there is enough interest I can organise  possibly some future gallery and studio visits to other photographers. There will be a supplementary charge for this, but no charge for the follow up sessions. 
The rationale behind these follow up sessions is stimulate further projects that you might have been working on and to create a community that can encourage dialogue amongst yourselves and inspire each other.
